SURPRISE

Last day of work for the year so I'm writing a celebratory blog yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

Also am going to be in Birmingham tomorrow so probably won't be able to access the internet (they've years behind with technology in the Midlands)

I AM SO EXCITED FOR CHRISTMAS NOW

It's our work party tonight, having pre-drinks beforehand. Expect I'll get quite drunk and probably do some embarrassing dancing.

Still got shopping to do :( But almost there. Still debating on what to get my secret santa, want to get them something nice but just not sure what.

I was looking at the other blog and was thinking about favourite Christmas songs, and I don't really have any alternative ones. We have a good album which is A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector  it has songs like this:

And this:

And this is probably my favourite:

I recommend a listen :)

Anyway I have to go to work now so BYE MERRY CHRISTMAS SEE YOU SUNDAY YAYA :)))))

FINISHED EXAMS

Was my last exam yesterday.
Yay.
So my time spent this last week up until then has been unremarkable.
Watched lots of films instead of revising, Let the Right One In, Goodbye Lenin, etc.
Got Pete addicted to Parks and Recreation, so watching a hell of a lot of that.
Lots of takeaway food due to laziness. Dominoes, Chinese, etc.
Had Max and Cathy round for dinner.

And then, suddenly, EXAM.
Was fine.
Had a couple of pints with biology people, then went out with them for a curry.
Afterwards just watched a film with Richard.
Was the sleepies.

Am too old for this shit. Clearly.

Nothing much to report about my week.

Went to Torquay.

Got a cold.

Currently panicking about Christmas shopping.

I think many people are back today. Also think they are venturing to the pub? I'm going to the Beehive with my mum and Juliet's mum to plan our Christmas meal.

Went to the Beehive last night, its very festive in there. They have a massive tree attached to the ceiling. I don't know how they managed to get it in there. There was an Irish band playing and they did an atrocious version of Fairytale of New York, they didn't even finish it.

Today I am going to attempt to go to town to buy presents, but I'm scared of all the people that are going to be there.

Feeling a bit tired and hungover, was still ill from cold last night so obviously I decided to drink mulled wine, white wine and ale.

We have our team Christmas meal on Tuesday, that will be nice. And then the managers are buying everyone fish and chips on Wednesday. Friday is the Housing Christmas party, which will be interesting I'm sure. Managed to get some of the other apprentice's to get tickets, but we're all worried about getting really drunk and doing embarrasing stuff...

I think we should Wacky Wednesday this week!

Nothing else to say :) but see you all sooooooooooooooooooooooon!!!!!!

Exam in three hours.

It will be exam number 2 of 3.
I should be working right now, BUT I DON'T WANNA.
Bored of this shit.
After this my next exam is on the 18th, so I shall take the rest of the day of to celebrate the birthday of Sarah.
I wanna get drunk.

Considering Pharmacology as my honours.
Had the exam on Monday, and it was ok.
But so far it's been the one I enjoyed working for most.

Molecular Genetics today could be ok, could be balls.
The past papers vary.
There's just so much boring shit to memorise.

The stationary phase regulon in E.Coli is activated by sigma38 which is encoded by the gene rpoS.
During the growth phase, rpoS mRNA is negatively regulated by H-NS. It also forms a secondary structure that occludes the ribosome binding site, and also promotes degradation by Rnase II.
Transcription of the small RNA DrsA is increased when the temperature drops below 22 degrees.
DrsA negatively regulates H-NS. It also binds the 5' end of rpoS mRNA, where Rnas II cleaves the double stranded section and reveals the 3' ribosome binding site.
Under normal conditions RssB is phosphorylated. RssB-P binds sigma38 and directs it to ClpXP protease where it is degraded. Under conditions of stress RssB phosphorylation is inhibited and sigma38 is hence stabilised.

I mean, seriously. Who cares?

Wednesday, 5 December 2012

here is my blog

this is it.
i'm tired and only typing with one hand. so short blog this shall be.
for the last week we have been housing an austrailian.
his name is huw. he's been travelling around europe the last fifth months on his gap year. in a few days he goes back.

wednesday we pub
friday we haggis then pub
saturday we john's birthday party
since then i revise
first exam monday.

OK. I return. Because this is REALLY pissing me off.
My thoughts, this? Not ok.
The comments. Not ok.
"Whenever I see how happy people with Down Syndrome are, I always wonder which one of us has the disability..."
SERIOUSLY?
It's a sereve genetic disease you dumb shit.

Am I the only who finds this whole thing really exploitative?
I don't get why it is ok to cutesify Down syndrome? Is it because their cognitive disability means they don't fully understand how patronising you're being?
Fair enough, look to the positive - but this??
The t-shirt, ffs. I'm assuming she did not pick it out herself. And that her parents have instead chosen to project this image onto her. It's making light of a disability but because they're so 'sweet' and 'precious' somehow it's all fine.
Imagine telling someone with a severe physical disability how adorable it makes them.
"I see way more happy people with Down Syndrome than I do without it....they must understand something we don't."
"I wish I was as cool as her!"
"oh my gosh she is precious. absolutely PRECIOUS. XD"
"Yeah, bad ass!"
"True happiness folks...+1"
Yeah, there are a lot of typically offensive comments too, but its these twee motherfuckers that are pissing me off because they think this is ok.
Turn a handicapped child into a toy to be 'aww'ed at on the internet, enjoy yourselves.
Cunts.

Only a few days into revision and me and John have already gone wrong.
We spent the last couple of hours writing songs about poo.
We had a full conversation using only the words bum, cum and poo.

Here's a really good song

I got drunk on Friday and gave a tenner to a homeless man.
Ima go cook now.

FUCKING GOD DAMN IT

Tomorrow I will do this, I promise

Sunday, 25 November 2012

Oh yeah, totally didn't forget or anything.

Promise I'll make this good tomorrow!

Told you I'd do a proper blog!

I’m so happy everyone is blogging again, I will do my best to keep up!

Not much to report on the uni front, I am not a huge fan of psychiatry and I am certainly not enjoying it as much as I did orthopaedics.

Nothing hugely noteworthy has happened since I last spoke to you. I guess one big thing is I got the results back for the exam I had at the start of November, totally passed it (and was more than a standard deviation above the mean mark, not that I’m gloating about it or anything). This is the first uni exam that I have actually done well in and it feels pretty darn good.

This weekend I spent a fair bit of time traveling. I drove back to Bristol on Friday in order to spend all of Friday night and Saturday day playing the new COD (I am not very good at it online, people send me abusive messages). On Sunday evening I drove back to Swindon. I ate dinner with Chris and Doug and the Savoy and then went and saw Imperial Leisure at the Vic along with David and Miranda. They were super good and I had a fun evening. After a somewhat uncomfortable sleep on Number 9’s sofa I drove from Swindon to Yeovil which is a 2 and a half hour journey. I did however listen to the Clash Of Kings audiobook the entire way so if anything, the journey went by too quickly. After Yeovil I drove back to Taunton and now, here I am.

I extremely excited about next weekend when I am going to Beans On Toast’s birthday party/album launch with David. I am pretty sure all of you should come along too!

Now onto my challenge I set all those weeks ago, here are the best ever gigs (including festivals) I have been to:

1.       Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls - 13/4/12 - Wembley Arena, London
How could anything else even come close, it was just so so good. He was also supported by Beans On Toast, Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip and Billy Bragg, you’re not going to get much better a lineup than that.
2.        Ben Marwood - 15/7/11 - 2000 Trees Festival
There was just something about this performance that seemed really special. Ben played the Greenhouse stage which was at the bottom of a big hill. The hillside was covered in hundreds of people sitting to listen to him. It was a really great performance.
3.       Frank Turner -10/11/12 - The Frog and Fiddle, Cheltenham
A very recent event but one that I enjoyed greatly. It was such an intimate show and we watched it from the front row. Frank was great and played at lot of the old tunes. I think I prefer it when he performs solo rather than with the band.
4.       The King Blues - 8/10/09-  O2 Academy, Oxford
A band which who I no longer like but still, it was a great show. They were supported by Imperial Leisure and POS. It was the first proper gig I had been to and was when I was still just becoming friends with Swindon people so I look back on it with fond memories.
5.       The Tallest Man On Earth - 23/10/12 - Colston Hall, Bristol
Another really recent gig so maybe my mid will change about it over time, but honestly it was such a good gig. I never imagined that he could possibly sing and play guitar so well live. It was beautiful.

I break up for Christmas in 18 days and I absolutely can’t wait. Hopefully see you all very soon after the 14th when I am back!

Gold star for me for remembering

Hello all

Sorry it's been a while

I've been doing lots of fun stuff though! I went to Newcastle and Edinburgh, it was lovely to see people.

I got a real job with a real salary. I'm pretty excited about that.

Saw Frank Turner in Cheltenham, that was amazing. And I got really drunk, and kinda ditched Billy, Chris and Doug which I feel bad about. Apart from that it was really gooooood.

Last week went to the pub with Harry and Chris which was nice, haven't seen them properly in ages. After that I met my mum and Juliet's mum and got very drunk.

I worked on the fish stalls the last two Sundays, which is really fun. Nick and me get on really well, he says I'm like an annoying little sister. He looks like Voldemort... Only down side is that my winter coat smells of fish now so I can't wear it to work.

Last night I went out with my mum and Hattie and my mum's friend Mick. We went to this exhibition on female empowerment (by male artists) at Artsite and I don't think any of us thought much of it. Then we went to Piri Piri, then The Beehive and then The Vic. I DRANK TOO MUCH WINE. I may have been sick. I also saw Freya's sister Alice at Artsite. She was quite drunk it was quite funny, all her friends were really drunk too. It was amusing.

And now, I am about to go to my sister's to watch crap telly like Strictly and X-Factor. Highlight of my week.

So yeah I'm totally like best friends with Juliet's mum now.

WE'RE HAVING CHRISTMAS AT THE LUFTS. I'm so so so excited.

It's the Imperial Leisure gig tomorrow eve, I think I will go. It would be nice to see people and they are quite lively. I'm not going to the Beans on Toast thing next week, I am going to the pub with my dad and Dawn. I hope you all have a super fun time.

It's the Old Town light switch on next week I believe, we should all go (whoever is around) Also lets go to the town centre ones too on 5th December, I hear Jahemene from X-Factor will be there....

I haven't really been to many gigs (can't seem to remember going to many) so I am going to include festival performances too:

Django Django at Latitude this year
Benjamin Francis Leftwich was really nice at Greenman last year
Frank Turner (Wembley and Cheltenham)
Bon Iver at Latitude again
And a final one ummmmm I don't know there are too many (sorry for being rubbish)

SAME TIME NEXT WEEK?

Thursday, 22 November 2012

I remembered, are you excited?

Logging on was far too much hassle.

This week's been crazy busy.   I've had to change my dissertation topic because my supervisor is in hospital for an unspecific amount of time and the guy they put me with didn't have a clue what was going on.  I know its meant to be a go-away-and-do-it-yourself type project but he's totally indispensable.  And a lovely chap too.  So now I'm writing about prohibition gangsters which is much more fun than what I was doing before.  I just wish I'd been doing it from the start.

Watching the new adventure time - is it just me or is it getting less and less like a kid's show every episode?

The weather's been really shit recently so I haven't been enjoying Cornwall's full potential cause let's face it, no matter how beautiful a place is it's shit in the rain.  There's a mighty hailstorm outside right now and the noise is incredible.  I've been on lots of bike rides the last few weeks though, when the weather's been clear.  I've got a new favourite spot which is cool.  I don't really know what else I've been doing apart from the odd open mic night and trips to the pool hall.  Yeah, we hang out in the pool hall now cause we're fucking cool.  And I've been reading the Godfather (which is such a good book).

Will, my best gigs (of the few that I've been to) have been:

The Tallest Man On Earth (London 200..9?)
Sigur Ros (London 2008)
Mad Dog McCrea (Falmouth 2011)
Iron & Wine (London 2010)
And of course, every Polly and Kettles gig

Night

EDIT
Cath just sent me this

Holla

Just finished the first of the Game of Thrones books.
(Or should I say, just finished Game of Thrones the first of the Song of Ice and Fire books, whatevs.)
Yeah. That was good.

I was reading it on John's kindle and thankfully he hasn't got the second, as I haven't done a piece of work since I started it.

I have a test of Friday, worth 30% of my Molecular Genetics module, and then I have three exams on the 10th, 12th, and 18th.
Ew.

I'm book my Swindon train in a bit, probably for the 21st? I want to be around for Owen's birthday - it always gets forgotten about.

Last Thursday I had my last hand in, the sister came up with the boyfriend and it was also Harry's birthday. We went to Teviot and had a lovely time.

Friday I skipped Uni and took Krissy and Declan for a tour of Edinburgh, we walked across Holyrood Park, up to the Palace and the Parliament then up the Royal Mile to the Castle then down onto Grassmarket, back up onto George IV and then over to the Uni. I showed her the elephant skeletons and whale jaw bone in the medical school and then we went for lunch with Jess in Teviot. Afterwards Krissy and Declan got a bus to Aberdeen.
Pete did dinner for everyone then I went to Georgie's. We both ended up the night vomiting and then passed out on her sofas.

Saturday I didn't emerge from Georgie's until about 4pm. I went for 'lunch' with Pete then watched a film with Oli and Charlotte.

Sunday I spent literally all day reading Game of Thrones, then Krissy and Declan came back and we just chilled at the flat.

Monday I went for breakfast at Kilimanjaro with Krissy and Declan then they went to the zoo and I went to a lecture.

Yesterday I went to the Opera with Pete, Charlotte and Owen because CHECK ME OUT.
Twas The Magic Flute done in English in a steampunk style. Actually really good. Because we're younguns we get cheap tickets for all the stuff on at the Festival Theatre, so we're gonna be cultured innit.

This morning I have achieved little. I have a backed potato in the oven which I am about to eat, then I shall probably go to the library. YAY.

Monday, 19 November 2012

We're here, we're queer, we don't want any more bears.

Hi there!

I'm blogging, isn't this exciting for everyone? No? Well it should be.

Like Will I've totally forgotten how to do this. Also my housemate is watching me so it's going to be weird and awkward at best; I hope that's OK with everyone.

So what have I been up to? Well third year of Imperial is very similar to first and second year except extremely hard and horrible and I just want to be in bed all the time. A summary of my term would be:
  • Chamber choir weekend away (I'm social sec now woo) this was crazy good and we got lots of freshers involved and I won a game where you picked cardboard up
  • Home for Joe's birthday, increadible as always
  • Visiting Kate is always nice
  • I finished a computing project on solving coupled linear ordinary differential equations using different numerical methods, it was ballin
  • On top of physics I'm doing a philosophy modual which is actually really interesting but I'm not very good at it.
  • Giving a presentation on cosmic rays on thursday, it's 12 minutes long and peer asessed, unexciting.
  • I have a house with a roof terrace that's pretty great!
  • I teach guitar to a guy now, once a week, £10 for 45 mins, it's really fun.
  • I do open mic nights sometimes, they're fun too.
  • Over the past week I've been invited to THREE house parties, made me feel very popular!
  • Doing lots of comprehensive exam preperation already, it's awful
That's all I can think of right now though I'm sure there's more but yeah, life is OK but hard. I'm enjoying myself. Plus living in London is great, but I don't have any money.

Also all of my friends are getting summer internships but I'm gunna go on a choir tour instead.
I only just read your blog Will so I havn't had time to think of answers yet. I like billy bragg and 2000trees though because I'm predictable.

FOOD

I like food.

Recently I have made,
A slow cooked vegetable tagine with onions, butternut squash, carrots, chickpeas, garlic, fresh parsley and coriander, chopped tomatoes, cumin and paprika; served roasted aubergines stuffed with onions, garlic, roasted vine tomatoes and feta; spiced cous cous with spring onions and home made tzatziki.

On Sunday:
Chicken slow roasted in white wine and garlic. (For the flatmates, I did not partake in the eating.) With roast potatoes, sage and onion stuffed, homemade yorkshire puddings, leek sauce, peas and red wine gravy. Sarah provided roasted carrots, parsnips and onions. And I made apple crumble and custard for dessert.

A few days ago:
Mushrooms stuffed with spinach, feta and spring onions topped with grated cheese and breadcrumbs served with cous cous and a ratatouille with onions, peppers, aubergine, courgette and chopped tomatoes.

YAY.

Best gigs. Hm.
In no particular order:
Muse at Royal Albert Hall, London
Cat Empire at the 02 ABC, Glasgow
Owen Pallet, although he was super adorable in Cardiff, I think musically RNCM, Manchester wins.
Duke Special in Oxford, the time he was supported by The Voluntary Butler Scheme.
AND Arcade Fire, Barrowlands, Glasgow. Probably.

I've been to so many gigs, I appear to have forgotten most of them.
So not sure about my top five ever ever, but they were definitely five damn good gigs.

This week I got really accidentally drunk on Friday, and don't remember.
Saturday we watched Taken.
Sunday we had the roast.
Other days we did other things.

Sunday, 11 November 2012

I haven’t done this for ages and have kind of forgotten what to do.

I saw Frank Turner last night in a room of only about 200 people. Chris, Doug and I got right to the front and it was so so good. Imperial Leisure and Jim Lockey also played and were both their usual wonderful selves. It was definitely in the top 5 gigs I’ve ever been to. On that note, what are the top 5 gigs you have ever been to? I’ll give it some thought and get back to you next week. I stayed at Matt’s house and saw Kerry, Matt, Miranda and Cath which was lovely.

I have had my first exam of this year, it was all practical type stuff and I don’t think it went horribly. The results are out next Wednesday so fingers crossed.

I’ve started Psychiatry now and I am unsure how I feel about it so far. We have only really had introductory stuff so far so I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve experienced a bit more of it.

I just bought a fluorescent yellow t-shirt, I am planning on going running in the evenings in Taunton, we’ll see how well that goes. I am also going to do swimming I think.

Other than that my life has been pretty mundane, just working most of the time. I don’t know what else I can write about that you would have any interest in so I’ll leave you here. I hope you’re all well and I look forward to seeing you all at Christmas.

Friday, 9 November 2012

I'm so sick of listening to Dylan on youtube, scrolling down and seeing people get mad at Justin Beiber.

Seriously, if it carries on I might just start listening to him.

So Juliet reminded me yesterday I need to blog but I thought I'd take her day just to let her know how much I appreciate it.

My life hasn't been very interesting of late, mostly it's just been incredibly stressful.  I don't want to waste your Friday with a moan so I'll just leave you with this:

Miss you.

Wednesday, 7 November 2012

Missed my last blog day

because I was STILL without internet, and rushing to hand in ANOTHER essay.
Today I am writing YET ANOTHER FUCKING ESSAY. Due in tomorrow.

So... My flat now has internet. Hence I am writing this wearing a huge dressing gown plus a nice big blanket.
And I now spend my essay breaks reading the wikipedia articles of various Game of Thrones actors.
I think I've gone wrong.

Obama is officially king.
Which is nice.

Miranda, Cath and Oonagh came up last weekend. As well as Owen's brother and two cousins, Pete and Gavin's respective sisters, plus Rosie, Josh and Grant.
It was a busy weekend.

It was also halloween.
I dressed like this:
I know, right? Check me out.
That's spray in black hair dye, a base coat of light-grey body paint, highlighted with white body paint, and shaded with a dark grey eyeshadow (that I am also wearing on my lips. yum.)

OH. And I've invited the fatman to New Years, I hope that ok.
If not we can just make him wait in the car.

I'm really excited to see you all again. Christmas seems so close!
(Although I probably won't make it back to Swindon until the 21st due to bastard exams.)

And in case anyone was wondering, the results came back and my cervix is A-OK!

Sunday, 21 October 2012

I got for free what most of the people here paid thousands of pounds for. More in the morning but fuck private education.

ANOTHER

super quick library blog.
Still no internet.
So many essay's, so little time.

GOT OFFERED A SUMMER PLACEMENT IN PUERTO RICO!
Yay.
But can't go unless I find appropriate funding.
Boo.

Spent my weekend in Newcastle with Cathkins, because I am, gradually losing my mind in Edinburgh.
Was wonderful. I nearly forgot to go home.

Have become addicted to Game of Thrones.
But have to wait, as with no internet I am unable to stream. But, due to his chronic torrenting addiction John of course owns every episode.
But I promised Dickie we'd watch it together. So I have to wait for both John and Dickie to be present in order to watch.
But yesterday I broke my promise, and am now two episodes ahead of Dickie.
But John is away tonight.
So I am currently waiting for Dickie to catch up and John to come home. And it is all very stressful.
SIGH.

It'll be cold so cold

I’m 3 days into a 4 day weekend, that’s just how I roll.

Although Bristol is only 1 week into normal term time, I am just about to start week 7 of my first 9 week unit. This means that deadlines and the like are approaching and so I’ve spent a large proportion of my last three ‘days off’ actually doing work. We have a group project which is to make a scientific poster/presentation type thing on how dietary factors affect gout. Somehow I got landed with the job of putting it all together and making it look nice which has taken so so much time. I’ve finally managed to get it done after hitting the library at 9am on a Sunday, I’m pretty sure you could have counted the entirety of the library’s other occupants on one hand, it was depressing. I have also got a presentation to make for Tuesday and a 2000 word essay due in for Friday; I have started neither of these yet.

In other news my week has been same old same old. The highlight was probably getting to give someone an actual injection. It was probably one of the easiest things I have ever done but it was still very exciting. I honestly can’t think of anything else good to happen this week, it was all clinics and tutorials with nothing of note happening. I get picked on by one of the consultants who teaches us every week, I think it’s just because I am the only one whose name he can remember so I he has to ask me all the questions, it is a very stressful experience.

Being back in Bristol for the weekend has made me realise now how much I have been taking for granted the fact that in Taunton I have no bills to pay. In the house it has so very chilly the entire time but we just can’t bring ourselves to turn the heating on yet.

Next Sunday is the medic’s fresher’s bar crawl which is always fun. As third years we get to wear scrubs which, let’s face it, is pretty fucking cool. It does mean that I have to go see what will probably be several hours of surgery for the sole purpose of getting let into the changing room where the scrubs are kept.

Did y’all see that guy jump from space!? Boy was that fair less exciting than it was built up to be.

Right, I’m off to curl myself into a ball wrapped in my duvet in attempt to bring some feeling back into my frozen toes.

Night.

In library.

No internet at flat.
Quick blog so other studious people don't judge me.

HI.
This weekend I went to Paris with ma famille.
Is was tres bon.
If I wasn't rushing this in the library I would like to stay and chat about it.
Also I am very hungover.
Also I told Dickie I'd be home to bake a pizza.
Ima make it from scratch, because I'm bloody awesome like that.
Yesterday I went to The Tron with Oli and Sags, and then to The Hive with Georgie and the Sky-Divers (that sounds like a band name and I like it.)

In labs we found a video called: Professor Bonner and the Slime Moulds
I laughed.

Sunday, 7 October 2012

I’m sorry for my blogging absence last week, I just plain forgot.

My last 2 weeks have been reasonably interesting. Seen more surgeries and diagnosed more people, nothing crazy exciting though. I got shouted at by a surgeon on Thursday which wasn’t very nice, I didn’t even do anything wrong really. This week I have to give a presentation on seronegative spondyloarthropathies, fun fun fun.

I had last Friday free so I briefly went home on Thursday night to collect my TV and PS3. I then took them down to Bristol on Friday.  I bought Borderlands 2 and played that lots this weekend, the coop campaign mode is pretty darn fun.

On Saturday night I ate dinner with 4 out of 5 housemates which was lovely. I have a new housemate this year to introduce you to, her name is Rachel and she is from halls in first year but didn’t end up living with us last year, she has now seen the light and moved back in with us. She does Biology and is an all-round great person and a far better UBRUBer than I will ever be. This is her:

Do any of you have new people you're living with this year? If so, introduce them to us!

I think one day this week I am going to photoblog so you can see the hospital and stuff. Could you guys photoblog too? I would like to see your new third year routines.

Some would call drinking alone sad; I would call it an awesome commitment to the Mongooses. For future reference, 'Mongoose' is a quite acceptable tasting beer.

I hope you’re all well. I haven’t spoken to any of you properly for ages now. I am going to hit you up on facebook over the course of this week.

I like batman.

Night!

What a week

I'm so tired you guys!
Really getting into my course right now, everything is a lot more intense and interesting and somehow I've just stepped up my game immediately which is something that didn't happen the last two years.  I think I found my work ethic, which I thought might not ever happen.  It means that I get to the end of the working day and actually feel justified in chilling, so I can put on a film or go see Lily and not have to feel guilty.  It also means I get tired earlier but I've always been a bit of a pussy in that respect.

ANYWAY it's not been all work and no play, last night some friends and I went to the union to shake the post-lecture blues and ended up getting sufficiently drunk, I thought it was like 9 o' clock but then we got outside and it turned out to be about 4.  So, realising I had to be up early today I went home to sober up - we spent 5 hours straight playing Tony Hawk's and had no idea.  All levels unlocked, bitches.

Me and Lily went to visit Perranporth at the weekend which was really nice.  It's this little harbor town with a wall that sticks out right into the sea.  We went around the corner and walked along the three miles of beach and back, went crab lining off the end and then went to the pub.  I don't have a picture but I can assure you it was idyllic.

Miranda, I miss taking Frodo for walks.  I know I only did it twice, but sometimes when I'm coming home from Uni I take this path through the woods and it really feels like I should be walking your dog.

Juliet, I haven't heard from you in so long and I like hearing about your Edinventures, I'll give you a call at the weekend when Lily gives me back my phone.

Will, I hope you don't get any blood on you when watching people being cut up.  That'd be naaaasty.

David, I miss you.

That's about it you guys, I have nothing else to say.

P.S. Sorry for the lack of posts, you can all stop judging me now.

Buttery biscuit slut.

Went to Aberdeen with Oli and Charlotte for Rosie's big banging bargain birthday bucket.
Really really great weekend. Lots of drinking and games, went to a couple of clubs. Fun fun fun.
Hit the maritime museum on Sunday, best part was a timeline of oil, first entry was the use of oil to waterproof Noah's ark. No joke.
Monday I spent all night in the library as I had neglected to do a practical report. Mainly because I'd forgotten it existed, and have hence received my first late penalty of the year.
Spent Tuesday in the pub with Pete and Harry.
Today I watched far too much Great British Bake Off with Richard and Owen.
Made awesome food. Caramelised onions with mushrooms and sundried tomatoes, cooked in balsamic vinegar and paprika, served with green beans and roast potatoes with rosemary and thyme. (+ sausages for Richard.)
I have done very little work recently.
It is because I am lazy.
Did buy a nice dress today, got distracted by charity shops on the way to Lidl.

LATE

But it's not like anyone else was gonna post anyway.

Soooooo. Very lazy week. I don't want to do anything ever again.
Apathy is the best.

Although yesterday I cooked all the things. We had:
Home made falafels
Patatas bravas
Loaded potato skins with mushrooms, cheese and sour cream
Stuffed peppers with cous-cous, sundried tomatoes and grilled halloumi
Garlic mushrooms
Roasted aubergine stack with pesto and mozarella
Olives, sundried tomatoes
Bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
WHADDUP TAPAS

Feasted with Owen, Richard, Pete, Gavin, Harry, Mike, Oli and Charlotte then we played many drinking games, danced lots, drunk lots then went to Potterow where we picked up a very very drunken Sarah.
Good night.
Mike is the best dancer. Ever. Like seriously. He is the reincarnation of Jarvis Cocker. And it's wonderful.
(Although Jarvis isn't dead, so I am unsure of the repercussions of this.)

So. Yeah. Basically just been going to Uni, cooking, drinking and lazing around.
Went out for a curry with Pete on Tuesday.
Watched White Ribbon - awesome film - at Charlotte's a few days ago.
Watched The Other Guys at mine another night - also awesome.
Bought lots of second hand books.
Saw The Matrix at FilmSoc, had a Teviot dinner.
Had an AWESOME dinner at Bonsai followed by a mini pub crawl, and the worst attempt at going out ever. We walked into Liquid, looked around then left immediately.
Exciting.

Holy moley, it's a blog!

Me this morning:

This morning I thought there was a 99% chance I was dying because I felt so ill. Now the odds of me surviving are looking more like 50/50 which is hopeful. If you don’t want to feel this bad, don’t drink 2 bottles of wine and then be too drunk to go out and have to go to bed early.

I have been incredibly lax about my blogging lately. That ends today. Now that we are all separated I’ll try my best to get back into doing proper blogs.

So since my last real update all sorts of things have happened. I went to Reading, moved in to my new Bristol house, moved out of my new Bristol house, moved into my Taunton house, saw real life surgery, been covered in multiple bodily fluids, got a new bike, broke new bike, mended new bike, broke new bike again, broke car, mended car, broke car again, went to Exeter… and so on.

I am living in the halls of residence for Somerset College until the middle of January. It isn’t too bad, we have tiny rooms but they have en suites which is nice. The main downside is the internet being unusably slow whenever more than one person is on it. Luckily everyone goes home at the weekend so right now I can actually do things online!

I am really enjoying the hospital placement so far. We have clinics and seminars we have to attend, but there is tons of free time where we have to organise things to do ourselves. In most of my free time I have been going to the orthopaedic theatres to see bone surgery and stuff. So far I’ve watched 2 hip replacements, a metalwork removal and a tibiotalocalcaneal fusion. Orthopaedic surgery is pretty brutal but so so cool. Before this placement I had never even considered surgery as a thing I wanted to do, but having actually seen it, I am rather warming to the idea.

Last week I spent 2 days in A and E. The first day was really quiet and I got a bit bored and didn’t want to go back, but then on the second day it all kicked off. I saw a man with a collapsed lung come in and got to help the consultant re inflate it. Then I got to poke my fingers in a cut in a man’s head and touched his skull! It was great. I spent over 40 hours in the hospital last week though and it was so damn tiring I was going to bed at 9:30 each night.

I stayed the night with Kerry in Exeter yesterday. Her new house is super fancy; I didn’t want to touch anything in case I ruined it. I got way drunk and had to go to bed before going out time, I had a great sleep though.

This coming week I have less stuff going on which is nice. I have the day off tomorrow so I’m going to catch up on actually learning things. All this seeing cool things is fun, but it isn’t a great way to learn things, so I need to look up more about what I’ve seen in my own time.

I can’t think of much else to tell you about so I’ll leave it at that. I hope you are all settling back into uni now and you aren’t working too hard.

Miss you.
