I have no excuse.

My last 2 months of not blogging have been great guys, I've done so much stuff that I couldn't possibley talk about but it's been awesome. I promise if you look through the blog drafts I've attempted to do it (ahahahaha) atleast a couple of times.

Will already talked about the weekend that we had, it was great and I wish I went to university in Bristol with Will and Jo and have fun, but alas I live in London and spend all my time working.

I'm not going to blog well today I'm afraid guys, just dipping my toes in the shallow end of the blogosphere, not diving straight in.

So yeah! (probably my most used blog-phrase in the history of TFM) My top 5 things are:
  • 2000 trees
  • Nationalyouthchoir/singing
  • Driving in Will's car
  • SCIENCE
  • Music

I have others and I'm sure there are things I havn't thought of, but these seem like the best things I can think of.

OH AND I saw Childish Gambino on thursday night and it was pretty much the best thing, right now I also really like beans on toast (mainly the artist but the food's pretty great too)

Also I just want you guys to know that I'm part of the small but comitted Anti-blog-combining defiers, or the ABCD, this is our flag and we think the blogs should remain seperate!

Things I'm excited for:

  • 2000Trees
  • Croatia
  • Frank Turner at Easter

Things I'm not excited for:

  • Checking my bank balance
  • Everything else

I’ve had the same jeans on for 3 days now… and the same shirt, pants and socks.

I’ve kind of got that post festival feeling going on right now. I have drunk heavily and slept very little for the past 3 nights and haven’t showered or got changed (I am aware how disgusting that is).

So where to begin this story of adventure?

On Thursday I did ubrub again. The theme was ‘back to front’ so we were tied together one facing forwards and the other facing back MY FIRE ALARM IS GOING OFF WHAT.

Ok so it turns out Ro has some friends over and they were doing birthday cake in her room and it got a bit out of hand, all is well now.

Anyway, where was I? So we were tied together, 2 facing forwards and 2 facing backwards and we started the night in a nightclub and had to race around 6 bars and end up at someone’s house. I’m not going to lie, we did really well and managed to drink the 7 drinks in about 25 minutes. I felt horrible right after.

On Friday everyone came to Bristol for Jo’s birthday and that was just lovely. Most of you were there so I won’t go into detail but I had a great time and Thekla was fun. On Saturday everyone but Matt, Kate and David left so we hung out in Bristol and had milkshakes and made Thai curry. Matt had to go home but the remaining four of us went to the pub and got drunk again. I had so planned on going back to my house to actually sleep after that but David made friends with some guy because of his t shirt and he invited us back to Jo’s halls for a party, it was too good an offer to refuse. The party was not really a party at all, but we sat in Jo’s common room and debated lots of issues which seems a strange thing to do but was actually really really nice and I didn’t go to sleep until 4 because everything was so interesting. So yeah, that’s pretty much the story of the weekend.

In other news I have a challenge for you. David and I were talking in the pub about what our favourite things were. By this I mean your favourite inanimate object or activity (friends and family aren’t allowed on this list). With this in mind, I present to you, in no particular order, my all time top things:
  1. The internet
  2. Science/the scientific process
  3. 2000 trees
  4. Potatoes
  5. Music
I think those are the best things for now, but it may well change.

Oh, I signed a house this week. That was awesome. It’s on Clyde Road which is about 5 minutes further from uni than where I am now but it is maybe a bit nicer and slightly cheaper. It has a really big patio area out the back where we can have barbecues and I think that will be just lovely.

Right, this is very important news. For anyone who doesn’t know already, 2000trees tickets go on sale tomorrow at 8 am sharp! In order to get the ticket link you need to click attending on this facebook page and then get up early tomorrow and get on that shit. Same deal as every year, need to get the main ticket and early entry Thursday ticket. I am incredibly excited!

No funny pictures this week. I can't find the folder I save them in.

Love you

pets

I am the king of remembering my own password, and to blog...

Oh yeah, I'm bringing the one word story back.

Sorry I've forgotten for the past few weeks, I'd give soe cock-and-bull reason but we know how this works now: I forget for weeks on end, then post an inadequate one and carry on as usual. No questions asked.

FIRST THINGS FIRST! CROATIA, YOU GUYS. I'M SUPER PUMPED. At first I just kept looking at the threads and being like 'ahhhh, totally can't afford it' and hid in shame but I got really sad at the thought of all of you in Croatia missing me so badly, I wrote out my budget and got on it. Best decision I've ever made I'll wager.

Tonight our house is having a party for my housemate's birthday, it's viking themed so I've seretly made a longboat out of cardboard at a friends house so we can rock in to the party in that and bought him a mead horn so ale can be quaffed in true viking style.

Not a lots happened this week, I've been really busy writing my mini-dissertation which is just fingerbreaking shit. Oh yeah, and I caught three fish this week :D AND I got myself a gig booked, all to myself. TERRIFIED.

Lily says hi, as does Will.

I knew from the beginning this blog wasn't going to be up to par, but this is really terrible now and people are starting to turn up so I have to go. Somebody give me a text next Thursday because it seems I really do need a kick up the arse to remember things these days. You guys rock, keep on blogging as you do. I'm missing you all and can't wait for Croatia.

Love to your mothers.

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,

Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.

It's Burns night. Btw.
We're cooking haggis, neeps and tatties.
(I get a wee one person sized veggie-haggis.)

So, Croatia. Amiright?
Actually very excited.

Friday night I went to GHQ, Edinburgh's big gay hotspot.
Fantastic night. Spent a fair majority of it dancing with some elderly queens.
Every time I ordered myself a gin, got the barman to made me an additional drink of his choice.
Such a gorgeous level of drunk. Was an unplanned farewell to alcohol.
I've decided to take some time off for a bit. I like waking up not-hungover. And also, feel on some level it was sending me a wee bit crazy.
Not tee-totalling, just cutting down.
Limiting myself to house-parties and special occasions. And, well - an occasional bottle of wine with a meal isn't exactly the end of the world.
It's a lenient resolution, but yes. A reduction nonetheless.

And Tommmmmmm, every time I open Chrome I get a thumbnail image of the Mongooses and a penis. It's very distracting.

This is a short one, as today has been fairly stressful.
Trying to sort out third year. So many conversations about stuff I'm tired of words.

This is what a haggis looks like in the wild.
I'm no kidding.

House woes and kidneys.

Time for a blog I guess.

This week has been mostly an uneventful one. Going back to lectures after a month or so off was a bit of a struggle and by Friday morning all the 9 o’clock starts had taken their toll and I was super tired. I did manage to make it to all my lectures though so good news there. I like learning about kidneys a lot, they’re totally cool organs, I would be friends with them.

Yesterday I spent all day on the sofa feeling terribly hungover, I managed to get some serious skyrim done though, I think that game might kill me.

This week I think I have looked around 10 houses. You would think this would be an ample number to see in order to find one that is liked by all my housemates, but apparently it isn't. We saw an absolutely incredible house on Thursday, it was laid out over 4 floors and had a conservatory and 2 kitchens and about a million showers and it wasn’t even very expensive, the only downside was it was in the Stokes Croft/St Paul’s area of Bristol. It was 1 minute away from the Tesco where there were loads of riots and about 5 minutes away from the nightclub where like 3 people got stabbed last year, it was a little bit scary. So anyway, the house search will continue this week.

On Tuesday evening I was the keenest bean and went to an extra lecture by Dr Keir Shiels who was on that junior doctors TV program. He talked about paediatric emergencies and mentioned lots of doctory things, all of which I understood and it was actually very interesting.

Ok this week I had a revelation. You know those pens which have like 4 different colours in them? Well, I always saw them as a shit idea and secretly judged anyone who used them. Anyway, I found one in a lecture theatre the other day and gave it a go. My god, they are the most useful things I have ever used, EVER. My notes are now a riot of colour.

Sometimes I get a really strong urge to wash my hands. Like I can just be sitting in my room or whatever and suddenly feel that my hands are dirty and I really need to wash them. That’s normal right? RIGHT?

I saw this on reddit the other day and it made so mad and sad and at the end happy. It is worth a watch:

This isn’t a medical comic at all but it made me laugh and I don’t really know why.

Bad Tom.

BUT YAY. Glad you've come back to us.

Sorry about the no-show last week, I was in Glasgow, or Aberfoyle. Somewhere Scottish.

So yeah, back at Uni.
Arrived here on last Friday, been lecturing since Monday.
The Saturday before I went up to Scotland for friendly purposes. Got very drunk with my dad the day before, which resulted in me vomiting behind a petrol station in Glasgow and at the side of the road on the way to Aberfoyle.

Went on lovely walks and saw lovely sights in Aberfoyle.
Went to lovely pubs and saw lovely bars in Glasgow.
Heavily recommend The Book Club, some may say its too 'consciously cool' others might say - shuddup, it's pretty and has a ping pong table and old video games.

Being back in Edinburgh has been gorgeous.
Went out on Friday. All the drinking.
Went to Georgie's on Saturday for a lovely wee party.
Juan's briefly on Sunday for his birthday.
Had him and a bunch of others over on Monday. I cooked risotto for eleven, Richard cooked two upside down cakes, we drank a silly amount of wine, exchanged our Secret Santa presents, played charades. Beaut.

Didn't unpack until yesterday. Last night being the first night I actually slept in my room since getting back. Preferring the sofa / other flat over my wee hovel. (It's all lovely now though.)

OH.
And I've had interviews with some awesome scientist guys and have two summer placements to chose from.
First guy was adorable, he's a neuroscientist and works in using stem cells to treat MS, motor neurone disease and frontal lobe dementia. He chatted away for ages and bought me a coffee.
Second guy was quite nervous and shy, but he gave me a tour of the labs. He works in studying the transcription factors found in hematopoietic stem cell progeny that result in leukaemia.
So yeah. Exciting.
Both said they'd fit me in whenever if I decided to go with them, so I'm gonna go for July onwards so we can party hard in June.

I'm undecided about joint blog.
I think if we take a few weeks, see how we get along on our own - if more people start posting more often, then I reckon we should remain solo.
Merging should only be considered if we cannot support ourselves.

I'd like to finish this on a photo, but I can't think of any gooduns.
Though Will, I am enjoying your Doctor comics, each week I share them with my medic buddies cos I'm clearly the coolest cat.

Well Tom has fucked up the whole one word story hasn't he?

Hey, Tom blogged and no one else did. What’s going on guys? This is just another good argument for a combined blog, at least then there would be stuff posted every day…

This week I had exams on Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s was ok I think, but still plenty hard. Friday’s was, after my A2 physics exam on which I gave up doing any of the work halfway through the year and got an E in, the worst exam I have ever done. I wasn’t the only one to think this though; everyone seemed equally depressed afterwards. I am almost definitely resitting it in the summer. Boo.

Is it too late to have New Year’s resolutions? At the start of the year I thought they were stupid and I didn’t need no date to tell me to do things. Over the last few days however I have started to change my mind a bit, why not use the start of the year to do some better things. So with this in mind I have decided that in 2012 I am going to:
  1. Get fitter – I was talking to Tom about this and we have both decided we will go running and stuff in order to be ripped for next New Year so we can just rock up naked.
  2. Read more books - I keep buying books which look good and then never reading them so yeah, I want to get through some of them. I am going to start with If On A Winter’s Night A Traveller which Kate recommended to me years ago and I got given for Christmas.
  3. Do more uni work – If my exams of the last few days have taught me anything it is that I am a bad student. I work far too little and then exams are terrible, this needs to change and this term I am determined to write up lectures more and make sure I actually understand stuff.
That’s probably it to be honest and the reason I am writing them here is so that now I have told people I will feel obliged to actually do follow through with them. So, even though it is pretty boring, I will update you on them over the year.

I started playing Skyrim yesterday. I got it for Christmas but my telly was down here at uni so I couldn’t play it until now. I am enjoying it quite a lot so far, I have chosen one of the races that are good at magic and I can just set stuff on fire with my fists now. I fear it’s going to consume rather a lot of my life; I’ve racked up about 12 hours gameplay over the last two days and now my eyes hurt.

I’m excited for Sherlock tonight. It’s like a whole film length every week and it is just so clever and awesome. Benedict Cumberbatch is an excellent actor in my opinion. I would thoroughly recommend watching it if you haven’t already.

My lectures start again this week and we are doing the renal system. I can’t say this is something that excites me.

Here is your new doctor comic, it seems particularly relevant as I am learning how to do gastrointestinal examinations in a couple of weeks…

your

I think you are all back at uni now. That is quite sad. I have had a simply wonderful time seeing you all over the past couple of weeks;I am already looking forward to Easter.

This week I have attempted a lot of revision. Most of the time it involved me sitting there with my textbooks open whilst browsing facebook on my phone because I blocked it on my computer. So yeah, I have exams on Thursday and Friday and I am currently feeling woefully under prepared. Oh well, this time next week it will all be over.

McAfee keeps popping up and telling me my virus protection is out of date. With the frequency it reminds me of this; it is just as bad as having a proper virus. Maybe I should uninstall it? I mean I’m pretty sure you have to be an idiot to get a virus these days anyway.

So there is a lot of talk about combining blogs with those other guys we know. I wonder how you all feel about this. I know I am fairly new to the blog so shouldn’t really get much say in these kind of matters but I have thought of some conditions that would have to be met in order for it to work:
  1. It would have to be a completely new blog – I don’t think it would work out if we all just started writing on here or on their site because then who ever got to keep their blog would feel like they were more important and it would cause tension.
  2. Everyone would have to have one day a week to blog – If we started messing about with fortnightly blogging or just blogging when you felt like it then it just wouldn’t work, people would forget and the whole thing would go to shit.
  3. It would not be ‘Kittens, The Blog’ – I love kittens and everyone in it but I just can’t see a blog working with 24 contributors, the blog would just become the same as the facebook group.
  4. If we combine, the days won’t work out – So there are 4 of us that blog regularly and then probably 4 of them that blog semi-regularly. That makes 8 and that is more people than days of the week, I don’t know how to get around that problem.
What do you all think? Do any of you even want to join blogs? If you do is there anything else you think would need to happen? My view on the whole thing is that if we started up as a completely new blog and could make the days work out and stuff, I actually don’t see why we shouldn’t do it.

I leave you with the news that I seem to have accumulated lots of doctor related webcomics, I will be posting them over the next few weeks. Here is your first instalment:
Now back to revision. The next lecture I am learning is titled "Disorders of Colonic and Anorectal Function" so that should be fun...

as

What luck, only just hovered over the date bar to see the word Wednesday and freaked and had to blog.
Though, I must've known it was a Wednesday, as yesterday I invited everyone to Wacky Wednesday with me today.
And checked their replies today.
But must've forgotten the day.

So. New Years was lovely.
The loveliest of lovely.
One of my favourites nights. :D
It was great seeing you guys. I have so many vague memories of nice things that happened, though am unable to fit them together or imagine how they fitted into one night.

Since New Years, I went to Lechlade with Oonagh, Becky and Cath. Milly discovered she loved chasing swans, which is fantastic considering Milly is the size of a shoe box and Becky ends up chasing and screaming like a Fenton remake.
Yesterday I lunched with Miranda and then went to the Vic with my mum, which was very bizarre as it was a Swindon College film night, so I saw a couple of Commonwealians I used to know whilst I was sat drinking with their lecturers. But the film was awesome! I recommend Repo Man heartily. Quite the mind fuck.

On Saturday I'm off to London. And Sunday I'm away to Glasgow.
More nice things should happen before I go.

WACKKKY WEDNESDAY AMIRIGHT?

Also, if you look closely you can see my nan swearing at the camera.

big

Guys, I am ridiculously sad right now. I have totally missed my first ever blog day. You don't even know how sad this has made me. I feel like  have failed you. Anyway, I am still up so it is almost the same day, isn't it? Right? Right?

So new years, that was pretty rad. I had such a good time. Everyone looked amazing and it was just really nice to hang you with you all again.

So Christmas happened, that was a thing. Actually it had already happened really when I last blogged but I didn’t really mention what I did. It was nice; I just chilled with the family and that. Got some new clothes and stuff which was cool. I also got a medical textbook which was actually pretty exciting because it is such a good book!

Things I am looking forward to in 2012:
Getting a uni house – I'm hoping that will be sorted soon, there are only going to be 5 of us sharing next year so hopefully we can get a really nice one.
Trees lineup announcement - I think this is happening late January. Also earlybird tickets are on sale on the 30th so we need to get on this!
Frank Turner at Wembley – Fuck its going to be so good I can’t even stand the excitement and it is still over 3 months away.
Trees 2012 – I don’t even need to say anything about that, you all know it will be good.
Kittens holiday – I really hope this happens, it will be so much fun. I would like to go on holiday in the UK, it would just be logistically so much easier.
Being a 3rd year medic – I get to go on proper 8 week placements and do so much doctor stuff. On seconds thoughts that will probably be terrifying, there is so much I don't know.

Right now is New year's eve 2.0, why aren't you all here? It's really nice. Lets definitely make kitten mansion happen.

Again I am so sorry, I love you so much. NIGHT
